Aondrea Maynard has always had her own voice, but in this series, Liquid Seasons, the work achieves a new level of maturity. Moving between abstraction and imaginary landscape, these paintings explore the magical qualities of light and moisture in the changing of the seasons. In her abstract works, Maynard seems to intuit nature, echoing shapes and structures from cells to solar systems. As always, her lush layerings and elegant surfaces make each painting an experience not easily forgotten.

Aondrea Maynard was born in Mount Pleasant, Utah and grew up in Utah and Idaho, the fifth of nine children. Her childhood was spent happily playing along river beds and sitting among trees. Longing for the excitement of a city, she moved to San Francisco. She traveled through Europe and Asia and spent some time living in Paris, France. Aondrea studied painting, art history, sculpture and French at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill and then painting and textile design in Berkeley.

Alisa Golden Workshop at Donna Seager Gallery

Workshop with Alisa Golden: Make a book! Sunday, June 10, 12:00-3:00pm

Stamps and Stories: A Concertina Card Book
Postage stamps are miniature stories in themselves. How can they become little books? This one-day workshop looks at several basic skills you need to make a successful handmade book based on a stamp. Looking at traditional bookbinding techniques with a contemporary attitude, we will create a unique concertina book with three or more cards made from archival paper. We will draw from postage stamps (or your own original image) as a source of inspiration, then we will carve small blocks of soft plastic. By printing the blocks at different stages of carving we will show the emerging progression of the images; the book automatically tells a sequential story which may then be enhanced by words, collage, or other stamps.  We will add folded soft covers with a window for an image or title as well as colorful linen thread and a bead to secure your newly made artist’s book.  All levels welcome! The book model shown is based on the thirty-nine cent chili pepper stamp.
