I paint what I love in the world; sails full of wind and light, rowers balanced precariously on their sculls, persimmons high in the blue sky and hot families running into the surf at sundown.
- Kay Bradner, 2008 |
Don't miss this spectacular exhibition by San Francisco artist, Kay Bradner. Simultaneously contemporary and romantic. Bradner has a reverence for detail. With her keen sense of proportion she closes in and frames; moving toward abstraction while treasuring the specific and pied beauty of her subject.
Bradner's aluminum paintings, some huge, some tiny, are surprisingly unlike traditional oils. They have the light and freshness of watercolors, the looseness of monotypes, the clear precision of drypoint lines combined with the rich color and texture of oil paint. Sails seem lit from behind, veils of thin color floating off the wall. The abstraction of loose paint and bold shapes are contained by the crisp and sure drawing line incised into the surface of her
carefully prepared aluminum panels.
