Backlot
Escape from Hollywood
July 3 - July 31, 2007
Reception for the Artists: Saturday, July 14, 6:00-8:00pm
|
Inez Storer and Heather Wilcoxon are highly respected Bay Area artists and good friends. They also share very atypical childhoods in the backlots and glitter of Hollywood moviemaking.
Inez is the daughter of art director Franz Bachelin who worked on over 100 films in his 36 years with studios such as Paramount. Her mother, Anita, was a dancer and played bit parts in movies. Heather Wilcoxon is the daughter of Henry Wilcoxon and Joan Woodbury, both actors who met on the set of Chasing Danger. Wilcoxon starred in over 60 films in his long career including Cleopatra, Mrs. Miniver and more recently, Caddyshack.
Inez remembers running behind sets and seeing nothing there but scaffolding. She would watch makeup people turn young women into starlets. The concept of fabricated realities and “stories” figures prominently in her work. Heather remembers being on sets of movies like The Ten Commandments as well as the parties and parades that her parents were always a part of. Parents such as these had little time for child-rearing and the young girls learned to develop make-believe inner worlds of their own.
In addition to the artist reception, we invite you to a special evening with Inez and Heather where they will show some of the photographs and memorabilia from their unusual childhoods. You will also have the opportunity to talk to the artists about their work. |
