Muennig lives and works in Berkeley, CA. Her paintings, in her words, attempt to “take human experience, encipher it, and feed it back to the viewer through a series of trick mirrors.” From early on, Michele became interested in cultural expression and was first influenced by improvisational theatre and the circus. Muennig’s work is the stuff of fairytale and fantasy, born of a keen sense of observation of the real world around her. She is an interpreter of her culture whose cast of fantastical characters, with and without their mirrors, leave us much to reflect upon. She attended Tulane University in New Orleans, where she received a full scholarship and teaching stipend. She also attended the Pilchuk Glass School and CCAC. Her work has been the subject of many reviews and critical essays.
