The work of Heather Wilcoxon has developed over years of experimentation and dedication to her art. Her richly developed surfaces come alive with an orchestration of patterns and extraordinary creatures and forms. The creatures come from the endless drawings that flow from her imagination. These beings reflect human concerns and characteristics - the humor, fear, absurdity and brutality of the human race. Look closely at these paintings. This is seasoned painting with a highly developed palette. Wilcoxon’s world might be compared to William Wiley’s or Philip Guston’s, where the love of painting and drawing is always present and she is a master of both, but she also has something to say. She is not afraid to take a clear view of the world and put it down exactly as she sees it.

Heather Wilcoxon received her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1988. From the beginning, she distinguished herself with her original style and integration of pure abstraction and narrative forms. She has had solo exhibitions in New York, Houston, Denver and San Francisco. She has work in the collections of the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts, The Triton Museum and the diRosa Preserve. Wilcoxon grew up in Southern California, the daughter of Hollywood actor, Henry Wilcoxon (Cleopatra & Samson and Delilah among other films).
