Nikki Thompson
Simply put, we love this book. The structure is amazing and the craftsmanship is beautiful. Nikki Thompson prints with letterpress, Gocco, and inkjet. She uses innovative structures and materials to reflect the book's content. Each book is handbound. Production occurs either in a living room with a terrific view of downtown or on a red formica kitchen table in a San Francisco apartment. Letterpress printing happens in a Berkeley carriage house with a rich history of printers and many small critters.
Artist Statement
Collapse is yet another book about architecture and love gone bad. Five poems that describe failed relationships use metaphors from engineering and construction. Letterpress printed on Arches, using hand set type and pressure printing, with a little bit of Gocco printing for flair. Each poem is an individual book sewn to an accordion structure that allows the book to open dramatically. The sumptuous wine red Shindanshi paper and dark red book cloth create a brooding mood of heartbreak.
Edition of 20. Letterpress and Gocco printed.
