Marie Dern
Marie Dern began Jungle Garden Press in Berkeley in 1974. Using a Vandercook and a Chandler & Price letterpress, she has created books both of her own writing and in collaboration with others. Dern's books are notable in their clarity, simplicity and humor.

Nine-panel, two-sided accordion book featuring 18 drawings of trees in winter, printed letterpress on Arches watercolor paper. Bound by hand with a movable accordion so that "the reader" can arrange the trees in different configurations – an orchard, a forest, a single tree. Each book is accompanied with a metal sculpture of a tree. The sculpture can be placed within the printed orchard. The book and the tree are wrapped in hand-made snowflake paper from Japan. They are nestled in an orchard crate, handmade of sawn pine.
