Macy Chadwick publishes artist’s books and limited-edition prints under the imprint In Cahoots Press in Oakland, California. Through her work she addresses themes of memory, personal communication and visual language systems. She is interested in the connection between people: interactions both verbal and non-verbal, shared experiences, and the urge to communicate clearly.
Macy received an MFA in Book Arts and Printmaking from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia and assisted book artist Julie Chen at Flying Fish Press in Berkeley for three years. She currently creates books and prints in her letterpress studio in Oakland, and teaches classes at Academy of Art University in San Francisco, San Francisco Art Institute, and San Francisco Center for the Book. Her work is in prominent collections in the U.S. and abroad, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, Yale University Special Collections, and University of Washington, Seattle.
The Topography of Home
Macy Chadwick's latest book maps the internal landscape of familiar places. With her signature delicate pressure printing, Macy takes us on a journey page by page. Letterpress printed, the pages have cutouts inserted with silk paper that’s been stenciled, giving us an "inside to the inside" suggesting further depths into the subject at hand.
