what i can't tell you (ribbon spool books)

We are pleased to have the first prototype of Lisa's edition of what i can't tell you - letterpress printed and hand stitched silk ribbon attached to a vintage wooden spool. this will eventually be an edition of ten and housed in vintage sewing boxes along with various companion pieces.

Responding to the question, "how are you", Lisa prints stock answers (I am happy, I am fine, I've been better) on silk ribbon. The ribbon is taped onto the tympan for each impression and printed 40 picas at a time. The true feeling is embroidered near the core. (I wish I were happy, I'm just trying to hold it all together, things couldn't be worse) Even the spool carries a secret message. (Sometimes I want to hide). The spools are available individually for $250 or the complete set is available with the thimble in the case for $1,000

Lisa Hasegawa - Ilfant Press

Lisa Hasegawa graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking and received her Master of Fine Arts in Book Arts/Printmaking from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Lisa teaches letterpress and bookmaking classes in Seattle, and is sole proprietor of ilfant press. Her work has been exhibited nationally and has received several awards; including a Grant for Artist Projects (GAP) from Artist Trust and Printmaking Instructor of the Year from Pratt. Her artist’s books and prints are collected nationally in both public and private collections.

Lisa's endearing way of unveiling insecurities and self-doubts has a tender resonance with the intimacy of book arts.
