Secrets   Johanna Rogers is an emerging visual designer. Her passion for Book Arts has led her to designing a truly remarkable conceptual book she called “Secrets”.

She first printed postcards inviting friends, acquaintances, coworkers and passers-by to her website, www.johannarogers.com, where she had set up an anonymous guestbook-cum-blog. She spread these postcards to the four winds, and the four winds responded. She received a passel of secrets that were really remarkable—as though there were folks out there just waiting for an outlet for their deepest, funniest, saddest moments.

And then she turned to the physical book. How do you print in invisible ink? The answer, at least according to most of the world, is “you don’t.” Johanna had to invent a process. After some trial and error, she settled upon silkscreen as her printing method and formulated her own archival, untraceable-in-daylight, invisible ink that fluoresces in blacklight.

Only then did she begin the gargantuan task of silk-screening each page individually, and constructing an edition of large-scale books which are completely blank on first glance, but pour out hidden thoughts when irradiated.

Johanna was born in Medellín, Colombia, where she developed her passion for scuba diving and mountain climbing. After getting her M.D., she spent a year in a remote rainforest area between Panama and Colombia, where she served as the only doctor for the entire community. She then joined the staff of one of the most prestigious cardiovascular hospitals in Colombia, where she practiced in the E.R. and I.C.U. and was one of the youngest doctors on staff.

In 1998, she relocated to the Bay Area and welcomed the chance to challenge the other side of her brain by pursuing a career in the Visual Arts. She attended the Academy of Art University and graduated Magna cum Laude receiving a BFA with emphasis in Computer Arts & New Media. Soon she realized she wanted to further and deepen her understanding of the Visual Arts and enrolled in the MFA program at the Academy of Art University and is currently pursuing a degree in Photography.
