Judith Selby Lang
“Like diamonds…Plastics are forever.”
Judith Selby Lang has long been known for her commitment to the environment and her many projects using recycled beach plastics. Her distinctive pins and necklaces are a must for the image-conscious individual with a high-disposable income who is committed to making a fashion statement about the disposable. Her unique pieces are crafted from plastic detritus that has washed up on to Kehoe Beach in the Point Reyes National Seashore. After years of collecting, she is now creating distinctive art-to-wear pieces from her choice findings. Her work was selected for the prestigious New West Coast Design 2008.
Selby Lang describes her process, “By giving aesthetic form to what is considered to be garbage, I serve as both cleaner and curator. While the content of my work has a message about the spoiling of the natural world by the human/industrial world, my intent is to transform the perils of pollution into something beautiful and celebratory.”
