Anastasia Azure
Anastasia Azure is the originator of Dimensional-Weave™ jewelry and sculpture, which combines an ancient weaving, traditional metalsmithing and contemporary materials. Rhythmic patterns and geometric shapes inspire her woven art forms, which are hand-woven on a conventional floor loom.
She extrapolates a cloth-making technique into the third dimension. The gracefulness of supple curves and the beauty of geometry are expressed through undulating forms of metal and plastic. The durability and strength of wire complements the luminosity and flexibility of monofilament.
Anastasia trained at the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco, graduating in 2001. While earning her BFA in 2005 from California College of the Arts, she discovered weaving’s immense importance to her life’s work. She dedicated a three-year residency, at the Appalachian Center for Craft, to the research and development of Dimensional-Weave™. Presently, she resides in Oakland, California.
Her art has won many awards, most recently the 2009 Niche Award for Handwoven Fibers. She was a featured Searchlight Artist at the 2008 ACC Baltimore show. AmericanStyle magazine highlighted her jewelry in their 2007 August issue. Her artwork is published and exhibited nationally as well as internationally.
